Prabal Gurung NYFW AW16: Elegant dressing and soft silhouettes

WGSN Head of Catwalks Lizzy Bowring shares her review of the collection and highlights the key items

New York: Referencing Henri Rousseau’s “Woman Walking In an Exotic Forest” and Lord Byron’s “She Walks in Beauty”, Prabal Gurung delved deep into his signature eveningwear with a definitive lady like appeal. There was something quite luxurious this time around, from the opening ensemble – a luxe duffel coat trimmed in white fox fur layered over a lighter than air sheer skirt, the elongated tunic cable knit sweaters in feather soft white cashmere to the sheer tops delicately embellished with feathers and pearls. But for all of this refined demeanor, there was a certain provocative attitude in the deep slits left slightly open, revealing a covert glimpse of thigh. As the show notes stated, there was a “softening of silhouettes and an ease in shape,” yes, it was indeed effortless and elegant. – Lizzy Bowring
