ALL IN THE DETAILS
New York: Prabal Gurung pulled together inspirations as diverse as vintage Versace ads, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, and his native Nepal for his Pre-Fall collection. Vibrant woven fabrics and geometric prints referenced his homeland, while clean, body-hugging items harkened back to Versace’s heyday. As for Romeo + Juliet, the compelling palette of teal, fuchsia, and silver appeared to have been borrowed from the film. Gurung held it all together by opting for uncomplicated, classic styles, including slim sheaths, tapered trousers, woven tees, and button-up shirts, letting the prints and details do the talking. Watercolor florals, mirror image prints, contrast trim, and/or piecing appeared for nearly every piece; no doubt these elements will make for items that will stand out from the rest when they appear in the stores.–Joanna Manganaro
