COLORPLAY FOR GROWN-UPS
New York: Without straying from the classically ladylike silhouettes that Ports 1961 fans look for, creative director Fiona Cibani infused newness by incorporating a few of-the-moment style elements and opting for a bold, yet sophisticated autumnal color palette, accented with vivid jewel tones. A commendable first-ever Pre-Fall collection for the label, the ensembles felt at once fresh and classic. Timeless sheaths and hourglass suits were enlivened by rich blues and dreamy watercolor motifs, while the cuts of simple silk separates hinted at 70s funk. Solid blocks of color allowed ideas to be expressed clearly, and the printed pieces were too pretty to be intimidating. Neither over or understated, the clothes will be easy, and still fun, to wear.
