New York: Downtown femininity was the theme of the day at Peter Som, who refocused on his core clientele of well-heeled young ladies with a penchant for playful dressing this season. Building on the Mod movement of last fall, Som focused on easy boxy separates in clean wearable shapes. Stiff tees, simple sheaths and cropped trousers got a heavy dose of head-turning print, awash in an overscaled rose pattern, and a zebra-head repeat had a similarly whimsical feel. A grayish tweed, used throughout the collection, lent a decidedly polished feel to the looks, which balanced the boldly collaged prints and salmon-streaked tresses. —Shannon Davenport
