London: Peter Pilotto has built his name on texture and pattern, concepts which have finally won him a larger following in the fashion industry for both his own work and collaborations with niche designers like swimsuit maven Lisa Maria Fernandez. Although pattern was still the cornerstone of Fall, Pilotto moved away from the full-skirted and embroidered femininity of last season in exchange for a sportier, body-conscious look. Padded puffer jackets spoke to this active influence, through embellished with metallic ruffled hems they were elegant enough to top stretchy dresses and pencil skirts. Boxy t-shirts also featured padding, specifically beefed-up shoulders that created a sharp silhouette for vibrant floral matched sets. Cutout shoulders and crisscrossed halternecks provided a sexy signature throughout, while rich velvets and striped furs were a luxurious addition to Pilotto’s oeuvre.—Nina Stotler
