SMITH MEETS SMITH
London: One can always count on Paul Smith for menswear inspirations and this season the designer did not disappoint, but his current offering had a more relaxed, downtown feel that was in line with the style of the collection’s muse, punk rock priestess Patti Smith. While not as gritty as Ms. Smith’s signature look, the clothes did capture an edgier feeling; faded slouchy jeans and corduroys, oversized coats and a casual fur piece had an appealing nonchalance. Natty blazers, vests, button-up shirts and ties connected to the label’s signatures. The show ended with a flourish of chinoiserie embroidered with colorful flowers – perhaps a disconnect from the stated theme, but lovely just the same.
