MAN IN THE MOON
Paris: Inspired by Moon Unit Zappa (mostly the name bestowed upon her by her late father, legendary musician-composer-director Frank Zappa), Paul Smith found a way to put a bit of glam into outer space. The resulting “lunar luxe” was a nice follow-up to spring’s cosmic rocker theme, incorporating metallic down coats, lustrous leathers, speckled blazers that resembled moon rocks and toggle coats that looked like they came straight from the future. The subtle retro-adventurer quality of some of the clothes and accessories even had a Jacques Cousteau-esque quality about them — if the famous explorer was launched to the outer confines of Earth while listening to Mothers of Invention.
