NEO NEW WAVE
New York: For S/S 11, Patrik Ervell, known for his restrained, minimalist looks, turned his eye toward the New Wave rich kids of Brett Easton Ellis’ Less Than Zero. The intriguing combination of SoCal casual and European chic worked brilliantly in light colors and easy-going fabrics. With a runway laden with piles of Financial Times, the underlying message seemed to be a warning against the dangers of excess, and instead advocating austere luxury. Cotton poplin jackets came unlined and cropped, while pleated pants with narrow fits emerged as definite must-haves for next season. Many hoped Ervell’s aesthetic would have evolved more, but his clean palette and unfussy fashion is a testimony to what men really want.
