Last night we were invited to celebrate the store opening party for Patagonia Bowery in Downtown, New York City. A few weeks earlier, we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the store with its surfing focus and also came to the pre-party (last night) to chat with friends and family of the brand. Suffice the say, the festivities were just getting warmed up at 7pm when we first arrived — because, by the time the clock hit 8pm, the flood gates opened boasting a line that wrapped around the block, with enthusiasts clamoring to get inside! What can we say, New Yorkers love their Patagonia!

While inside earlier in the evening, we got to meet and have a chat with Chris Malloy — waterman, athlete, all around good human and longtime Patagonia Ambassador. People like Malloy embody the DNA of what Patagonia is all about — integrity, visionary and ethical. It was a real treat to hear about his plans for the next few months along with his balance of travel with family life and his farm (complete with chickens and vegetation) along the California coastline, about 40 miles north of Santa Barbara.

The room was packed with sounds from the DJ, friends, surfers, press and Patagonia family members. Everyone from longtime Patagonia friend and publicist Shelby Meade to Alex Grossman, Creative Director at Bon Appetit magazine came out to support the night — taking in the good time and partaking in the DIY GIF zone, Roberta’s Pizza zone (yum) and music performed by Real Estate.

The store is absolutely incredible and the neighborhood (full disclosure, I live three blocks away) couldn’t be more stoked for its new neighbor — stuffed to the brim with the latest surfboards, accessories, Patagonia apparel and outerwear. Not to mention a handful of select brands (like SEEA) who also sell goods inside the store.

Big thanks goes out to Patagonia for such a great night, and hopefully more to come!
