Parke and Ronen

New York: Although Parke and Ronen are best known for their swimwear, sportswear is what the brand was founded on in 1997. To drive home the point, the label staged its first runway show during fashion week. For spring, the design duo re-imagined the iconic matador for modern, city life. The matador’s tights were updated with relaxed waistlines and rolled cuffs, rumpled linen blazers replaced boleros and disheveled surplice tops hinted at the swashbuckling hero’s look, post-battle. Roses were thrown onto slouchy tanks, and rich embroideries depicted tropical scenes rather than ornate scrolls. Tailored and trim swim trunks and boardshort details mixed and melded seamlessly with the ready-to-wear, reinforcing Parke and Ronen as a lifestyle label designed to take men from the beach to the office to the club and, perhaps, even to the bullring. – Nivara Xaykao
