LUXE BE A LADY
New York: With boxy tweed jackets and pleated skirts, Oscar de la Renta offered plenty of ladylike separates for Pre-Fall. The midi length was a new element for the designer and looked especially nice for the first look of the show, an A-line dress in indigo tweed. Swingy short-sleeved A-line dresses and boxy shifts also had a youthful feel. De la Renta included a variety of prints in this collection, but the most compelling were the foulards. A standout ensemble mixed two versions of the print with a geometric-patterned tweed. Printed fit-and-flare dresses were classic de la Renta and are sure to appeal to his loyal clientele. Always a highlight, his eveningwear was particularly elegant this season. Mermaid gowns featured on-trend sweetheart necklines, and ball gowns were festooned with fabric appliqués, sequins, and gilded beading.–Joanna Manganaro
