New York: For f/w 12, Oscar de la Renta gilded his high society sportswear with whimsical interpretations of estate jewelry. Chandelier earring and brooch-style baubles were embroidered on knitwear and coats, while bold prints resembling hand-markered photocopies of the most extravagant jewels were cut into day and cocktail dresses. Reminiscent of adolescent heiresses, models displayed a demure mini length in skirts and dresses that spoke to de la Renta’s interest in continually resonating with the youngest of his “ladies”. For these customers, his opulent garments will be mixed with denim, motorcycle jackets, and heavy black booties (as most RTW is nowadays) but will still lend an undeniable air of luxury due to his use of couture level fabrics and finishing. –Kibwe Chase-Marshall
