Opening Ceremony Pre-Fall 2013

VIVA LAS VEGAS
New York: Opening Ceremony designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon imagined a girl on a road trip to Las Vegas for their Pre-Fall collection. With an inspiration centered on a city so flashy, it was a shock that the first passage of looks was so stark and minimal. Simple tanks, wide-leg trousers, a straight skirt, and a tank dress were presented in solid black or white tones. One began to wonder when the ebullience of Vegas would emerge. The answer – look 10, a boxy shift emblazoned with an eye-catching vertical zig-zag pattern. From there, Lim and Leon allowed the sights of the vibrant city to permeate the looks. Stripes and more zig-zags, in addition to glitzy Lurex and shiny paillettes, conjured the in-your-face glamour of Sin City. Hipster basics, such as blouson jackets, skinny pants, and curve-hugging dresses broke up the frenzy of pattern and embellishment. This playful mix of showy pieces, minimalist separates, and trendy basics is certain to inspire the label’s hordes of hip followers.–Joanna Manganaro
