A SHORT FLIRTATION
New York: Opening Ceremony’s in-house line took a page from one of their most successful collaborators, Chloë Sevigny, and looked to the shortest of hemlines for Pre-Fall 2012. When concentrating on flirty babydoll dresses and skater skirts, the collection hit the right note for this wildly popular brand, creating the type of vintage inspired and colorful pieces their customers love. Outerwear, including a leather motorcycle jacket with tweed sleeves, struck the right chord as well, resulting in items that seemed familiar but possessed special design updates. The collection faltered when it veered into less flattering territory, such as clingy satin trousers, patterned culottes and a ruffle hem t-shirt, missteps which are best ignored among the other stellar must-haves.—Nina Stotler
