On the bridge

Paris… Karl Lagerfeld

Contrary to the majority of designers looking into the past for inspiration for their F/W 09 collections, Lagerfeld looked towards future horizons for his broad-shouldered silhouettes. Referring to the shape as “the bridge,” he created this dramatic style in a variety of ways with capes, crystal-encrusted straps and cap sleeves. In dark brown and rich black, these futuristic looks were layered over signature satin cigarette pants. Dresses were outlined with contrasting silver braided rope and gemstone embellishments on hemlines. Waistband and shoulder details received the same treatment as the hot new accessory, a helmet equipped with iPod speakers. Other accessories included fingerless falcon gloves, a chastity belt with key closures, and chain-link ear covers.
