The Active Team was not surprised in the least bit when we first heard this summer that Stella McCartney and adidas would be designing Team Great Britain’s Olympic kits for the 2012 Summer Games. (Perfect combo, bar none!) So, last week while visiting London, you can only imagine how excited we were to see the first of three Olympic sports-inspired collections surrounding the Games.
Released on September 21st, the impressive launch includes both women’s and men’s apparel. The latter is a first for McCartney, previously only creating her namesake ready-to-wear for women and sports apparel, most notably her adidas by Stella McCartney line that pushes the design envelope for performance driven gear.
The collection ranges from fleece sweatpants, hoodies, leggings and jumpsuits to tees with the Team GB logo, totes and our personal favorite an oversized military-inspired parka that comes in both slate grey and gold lame. Pretty fancy.
Assortments are also online to purchase at The London 2012 Shop, where anyone can pick up items worldwide.
In excitement for the upcoming Games, we caught this small video from Fashion 411, which interviews McCartney, athletes and key individuals from England who are responsible for the Olympics.
Our favorite quote in the interview came from Sir Clive Woodward who is the Director of Performance for the British Olympic Association when he stated, “Bringing in Stella’s creative talents to link up with the adidas performance side is a wonderful mix.” And we couldn’t agree more!
