The past blends seamlessly with the present at the new Andaz Shanghai hotel, located in the city’s historic Xintiandi district.
Part of the Hyatt group’s new line of locally-focused, luxury boutique hotels, the 307 room, 28-story Andaz Shanghai is a super-modern spot to hang your hat when visiting this lovely city. All rooms, from twin size to the penthouse suite offer stunning views of the Huai Hai Road shopping area or the Xintiandi district, with its beguiling antique walls, façades, and tiles that make up the shikumen (stone-gate) houses of old Shanghai.
Look away from your giant window to be plunged back into the now, as all rooms also feature adjustable LED mood lighting, heated bathroom floors, electronic toilets and glowing translucent sinks and bath tubs that can also be programmed in different colors. This LED lighting frenzy extends to the hotel’s indoor pool, which also glows in myriad hues. In the works is a “Glass Pavilion,” an indoor garden perfect for weddings or VIP events and a spa dedicated to using the ancient art of Chinese medicine fused with Western anti-aging techniques.
