New York: As part of the next wave of buzzed-about New York designers, Alexa Adams and Flora Gill of Ohne Titel continued to develop their voice this season. The duo explored linear shapes and color-blocking for a high-performance, sporty effect, with shapes that expertly channeled the contours of the body. Neoprene – used for skin-tight tanks and as panels for collaged pieces – also helped solidify the activewear based aesthetic, and its slick and smooth texture provided a counterpoint to the more organic knitwear. Soft volume in the form of kicky skirts, full shorts and relaxed jackets helped to balance the edgy neoprene and soften the looks. Citing Japanese wood-block artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi as an inspiration, the designers borrowed his palette of white and deep blue, inserting a touch of vibrant cobalt for dramatic effect. With cage-like geometric cuffs and bib necklaces by Tauba Auerbach, the result was an effortless amalgamation of futurism and sport.
