Shepard Fairey staged a live public art installation in front of the Levi’s Times Square store on October 30th to commemorate the launch of Obey x Levi’s, a limited-edition clothing collection jointly designed by Fairey and Levi’s. The mural was later affixed to the facade of the Levi’s Times Square store and is on view until November 5, 2009.
The collection, which retails between $34.50 and $148 was released on October 29th. The line consists of eight essential menswear pieces that showcase fit, finishes, rips, patches and design details selected by Fairey and inspired by his personal collection of Levi’s denim. Each piece is a hand-customized original, punctuated by “spray paint” drip details, stenciled art imagery, pins and “wear and repair” finishing touches.
Fairey is the contemporary artist, graphic designer and illustrator who emerged from the skateboarding scene and became widely known in the 2008 U.S. presidential election for his Barack Obama “HOPE” poster.
