For the second year in a row, Shaun White and Oakley have teamed up to host yet another amazing Air & Style big air snowboarding contest in Beijing, China. Things went down this past weekend at the Olympic Bird’s Nest stadium, as thousands of Chinese snowboard fans cheered on an impressive roster of riders.
Ulrik Badertscher from Norway won the competition, taking home the coveted Air & Style Ring of Glory trophy and 1,000 TTR World Ranking points with an additional two Norwegian “wingmen” – Torstein Horgmo and Stale Sandbech – coming in second and third.
The colossal scale of the stadium is mind blowing…combined with the act of snowboarders hurling themselves in the air (from a massive jump built of only scaffolding)…it takes things to another level.
For the past few years, we’ve been following snowboarding and skateboarding – along with many other sports – enter into the Asian market at ground-breaking speed. This contest is yet another example of what is to come from this region and how active brands are really taking notice. We currently have a Top Ten Asian Athlete report in the works that touches upon this sentiment, calling out the best of the best in each respected discipline and their global and regional sponsors. Stay tuned for more come next week! – Jessica Kaplan
