New York: From the first outfit that Victoria Beckham sent out for her S/S 18 collection, one knew that this was going to be special. Her notes read ‘soft, strong, honest, easy – this collection reflects the many powers of femininity’. The emphasis on these words said it all. Silhouettes were delicate, yet confident, and powerful, achieved through her choice of pretty sorbet colours, materials and cut. Gone are the body conscious shapes and in their place, a streamlined collection of sincere pieces filled with a magical sense of ease; pencil skirts were paired with oversized short sleeved shirts, skirts nonchalantly falling from the hips. Pyjama suits that have become a status quo were reinterpreted in floral jacquards, while ‘that’ covetable slim cut trouser suit was drenched in a light shade of lilac. And her dresses – the delicate transparency was further emphasised with asymmetrical cuts, skimming over the body in effortless drape. Every detail to every outfit was carefully thought through, from the earrings to sparkling heels, nothing felt out of place. This truly was a lightness of being. – Lizzy Bowring
