Featured in our Brands to Watch report, the WGSN Catwalks team were eager to see Matthew Adam Dolan’s latest offering.
New York: There was nothing extraordinary about Matthew Adam Dolan’s Fall collection – but – that was just the point.
Where Dolan excels is taking an everyday item, tweaking it just so, then coming up with something which is not only wearable but unique. The shirt, the blazer, the mini-skirt styled over the latter, all pieces you’d throw on every day – made new with Dolan’s meticulous hand.
The relationship between high fashion and mass market inspired Dolan; one could see this in the plain-Jane shirts, subverted with enormous cuffs or cut in mint-green silk, or the tailoring, scooped around the shoulder, fluted at the hip – somehow feeling fresh after seasons of similar tricks. This, tied together nicely in a palette of contrast bights, business-time greys and denim blues pieced together what was an unremarkable, yet remarkable collection. – Anna Ross
