Earlier this month, NOVA, a contemporary art experience took over Sao Paolo’s Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS). Selected artists presented live collaborative works including live art, video screenings and performances as part of Nova’s partnership with the Brazilian museum.
Utilizing color, light, textures and design over 100 artists from around the world ‘played’ outside of the limitations and constraints of traditional artistic formats. For 7 weeks, NOVA presented pieces that experimented with technology and pushed boundaries in the contemporary art world.
One of Stylesight’s favorites was from Lucy McRae, one half of the infamous LucyandBart. McRae, an artist straddling the world of fashion, art and technology, was originally trained in classical ballet and architecture, both of which inform her art. McRae creates provocative “future human shapes” with prosthetic structures and surfaces attached directly to the skin.
Other artists to watch include Modern Witch, a collective of visual artists who create dark electronic soundscapes using video collage, costumes and projectors for site specific installations and Mario Zoots who manipulates contemporary cyber-culture into jumbled and hyperlinked art.
