The Active Team was thrilled to hear the fourth installment of the Nike x Undercover Gyakusou collaboration will also offer a women’s collection, so much so that we had to go check it out ourselves! The Spring 2012 collection fuses Nike’s technical innovation with cutting-edge style from Undercover designer and runner himself, Jun Takahashi. Previously known for adopting the zen-like quality for street-to-trail running, this collection reflects the same in a gentle spring palette for the ladies.
Subtle tones like stone grey, navy, avocado and blush tones show a return to a traditional Japanese palette from last year’s pops of bright blue and active-inspired oranges. With the subtle shifts in color and details to benefit those mid-run, the collection focuses on shape and silhouette for a truly chic, feminine feel.
The running skirt (we love) stretches flat across the front and surprises with pleats in the back for a playful gesture. Pockets and zips are perfectly planned for easy access during long runs, and the minimal approach is a refined, modern approach to often loud pieces.
Our favorite piece reflects the vision of the collection, a running jacket (below, left) that unsnaps to reveal a vest. The simple design relies on an asymmetrical zip and cape-like combo of sleeves and hood for a perfect transition piece mid-run.
The Nike x Undercover Gyakusou Collection will be available at select retailers nationwide. We expect it won’t be long until its scooped up after it’s release in a few weeks so stay tuned! -Calvy Click
