Nike SB Insta-Jam

Yesterday, the Active team had the unique opportunity to join the Nike SB team for The NYC Insta-Jam. It was a day of running around the city, visiting some of the athlete’s favorite NYC hangouts, and hearing great stories about what this city means to them personally, as well as what it means for the skate world from the beginning.

Nike SB has been on fire in the footwear game for a while, and the momentum just keeps rolling with two huge releases just in this past week of signature models for both Paul Rodriguez with his Lunar Rod x Primitive Safari and man of the hour, Eric Koston and his Koston 2……which happens to be the entire reason why the Active Team spent an incredible day with Mr. Koston himself for the official unveiling of his new kick. (So yeah, we were pretty stoked!)

Starting at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, we were all split into our teams, which to our pleasant surprise included Eric Koston and additional team rider, Sean Malto. We made our way via subway to Manhattan first stopping at Supreme, a landmark of skateboarding in NYC, and then headed to a demo at the Coleman Oval. There we got to meet up with a group of young skate fans to get a first peek at the new Koston 2 signature model. The whole team quickly gathered for a full-fledged skate session at the newly built park that re-opened on National Go Skateboarding Day, rebuilt by Nike.

After the demo, the teams were led to a gallery space in Chinatown where a cart handing out miniature hotdogs greeted everyone at the entrance. Inside, the Nike team had installed a huge visual timeline of Nike Skateboarding, as well as all of the signature models that have been designed over the years for the brand. In the backroom was an exclusive look at the Koston 2 – both Koston and the designer behind it all, Shawn Carboy, were on-hand to answer any questions about the new kicks.

We had a great time, and thanks again to the Nike SB team for inviting us out for a day of adventure. To follow along with where our team went during the day, check out Sean and Eric’s instagrams for more pics of the day, and don’t sleep on this team, it will only go up from here!
