As the mastermind behind Lady Gaga’s most outrageous looks, as well as the new man behind Thierry Mugler, Nicola Formichetti knows all about shocking, subverting and selling. The latter materialized last week on Fashion’s Night Out in the form of a pop-up shop created in collaboration with architectural firm Gage/Clemenceau Architects and the BOFFO Building Fashion program.
Formichetti’s bold aesthetic is evident all throughout the store, from floors and walls composed out of funhouse-like shards of mirrors to a trippy runway show projected on screens. Lady Gaga costumes, S&M getups, dizzying prints and flashy accessories abound. If all that isn’t enough, Formichetti’s muse Rico the Zombie Boy is the store’s acting manager.
The merchandise on sale doesn’t shy away from making a statement either. Floors are stocked with limited-edition Thierry Mugler men’s and womenswear, accessories by Nicola featuring his new Panda character, repurposed Uniqlo wares and items from like-minded labels personally picked by the designer (vintage Versace, anyone?).
The concept shop is located at 57 Walker St and will stay open until September 21.
