Lifestyle chain store Urban Outfitters has unveiled its newest concept shop in Williamsburg. Similar to the brand’s Los Angeles outpost Space 15 Twenty, its Brooklyn counterpart operates under the moniker Space Ninety 8. Reaching four floors and 37,000 sq ft., this 100-year-old warehouse has been stripped raw. The DIY-like space is replete with plywood walls, hanging rope, exposed brick and scaffolding planks. Live plants and tree stump tables add to its natural ethos.
The first level hosts the Market Space, showcasing 40 local vendors like Dusen Dusen and Salt Surf, while the basement is dedicated to Gallery 98, a pop-up featuring adidas Originals Blue apparel and footwear as well as custom artwork by Jason Woodside.
Also incorporating a large foodie element, the third floor and rooftop lounge boasts The Gorbals Restaurant and Bar, an Israeli-Scottish fusion restaurant headed by Ilan Hall of Top Chef and Esquire TV’s Knife Fight. Well worth venturing over the bridge, this unique retail concept is a must-see. – Sarah Ryan Hecht
