Indie fashion label Maiyet has acquired quite the following for its blending of artisanal luxury and social awareness. While recent work has focused on the Varanasi Project, a mission to revive a 500-year-old weaving tradition in India, the rising label has also managed to open its first-ever storefront here in NYC. Located on Crosby Street in SoHo, the 2,500 sqft. space is finished with a crisp white backdrop complemented by bohemian touches of cognac leather ottomans, cashmere-covered fitting rooms, and decorative greenery. Headed by Hugo Haas of Parisian architecture firm Cigue, the minimalist space is completed by the luxury clothing and accessories housed within. In addition to acting as a showcase for the newfound label’s wares, the space will also play host to events. Founder and CEO Paul van Zyl says, “Our Soho store offers a venue where the story of Maiyet can be told to the world.” A definite must see for those in the city. –Sarah Ryan Hecht
