Self-appointed Leather King Mitch Alfus is making noise in SoHo with the opening of this six-week pop-up. He is the owner of Libra Leather, the biggest designer resource for leather and fur, with clients such as Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, and Alexander Wang. This leather lover sold an excess of $50 million last year in skins alone. “I live and breathe leather,” Alfus told WWD.
This special SoHo space stays true to the leather connoisseur, showcasing a high end offering amidst a bohemian backdrop complete with multicolored Moroccan-style poufs, elk antlers, Malaysian tiger heads, the works; thanks to Alfus’ circle-of-life philosophy, none of the animals in his stock are bred for their skins. You’ll also find a range of stretch-leather jeans, python chairs, white kangaroo fur, and exotic skin rugs. Of course, the $20,000 king sized coyote bedspread completes the assortment. And although the merchandise carries a hefty price tag, Alfus strays from wholesale so you’re actually saving big bucks. Be sure to stop by and experience the hype for yourself! – Sarah Ryan Hecht
