Last night marked the opening reception and book signing of I am Dandy: The Return of the Elegant Gentleman. Having recently launched in NYC, this rich compilation is written by New York-based author Nathaniel Adams and features a range of stunning portraits from Brooklyn-based photographer and filmmaker Rose Callahan. The duo explores the phenomenon of dandyism, visiting modern-day dandies in their homes and documenting their impeccably designed lives, some of which include the likes of Gay Talese, Nick Wooster, Hamish Bowles and Simon Doonan.
A corresponding portrait exhibition, Dandies On Display, is on view at the Marquis Gallery of The National Arts Club for the remainder of the week. Enter through the classic billiard room to a posh backdrop complete with dark wood and lavish upholsteries, the perfect setting to complement the portraits showcased here. This book and short-run exhibition successfully captures the styles, attitudes and philosophies of contemporary dandyism. A must see. –Sarah Ryan Hecht
