New York Fashion Week Wrap

L to R: Calvin Klein, Derek Lam, Michael Kors, Donna Karan

With New York Fashion Week for the F/W 09 season at an end, four major colors have emerged as a constant through out designer collections. Despite the typical black, mineral shades, cosmetic tones, fuchsia and grey are set to be key colors for fall. Designers looked to nature for inspiration, but not the typical colors of brown and green. Mineral shades like mercury, steel, copper and tarnished metals were the derivative this season. A simple cosmetic tone emerged as a new neutral that was often paired with grey. Highlighter brights appeared on pieces like satin pajama pants, ruched skirts and full-length fur coats with fuchsia as the most popular. Shades of grey, ranging from charcoal to ash, were used on super tailored feminine looks.

Yes, fashion week had a subdued tone for Spring; the highlighter brights made all the difference for those looking for a burst of energy in their wardrobe. Personally, I love neutrals, they work in any season in any occasion.
