The folks behind the storied Dinner Lab have brought the members-only club to NYC. The concept of this underground venture is to showcase up-and-coming chefs in an environment where food is the focus. Tomorrow evening marks their second event, “South of Manhattan,” which takes place at South Street Seaport in the former food court of Pier 17 Mall. The space boasts a wrap-around deck, unmissable waterfront views and 12-foot long communal tables. Chef Brandon Byrd (formerly of New York’s Momofuku Noodle Bar and Aliseo) is the mastermind behind tomorrow’s menu, serving up an innovative take on traditional southern flavors. Dishes will span pimento cheese with cider-marinated cucumbers and “sprite” pickled celery to duck with smoked collards, ham hock and hatch chili aioli. And for dessert, chess pie with buttermilk custard and apple cake with lacquered pecan will make an appearance.
