New York Fashion Week will make its debut at Lincoln Center on Thursday to showcase the hottest looks of Spring 2011, but The New York City Ballet is getting a piece of the action as well. Stylist Polina Aronova fashioned NYCB dancers for the new F/W 2010 ad campaign in stunning, yet subdued, ballet attire.
Although simple and moderately formatted, the photographer Henry Luetwyler captures the graceful movements of the dancers and the simple elegance of the classic knit fabrics. Strong, nimble poses against warm grey backgrounds allow the viewer to absorb the pure beauty of the dancers and their agility.
Minimal form supports functionality, while still remaining sophisticated and tasteful. A splash of autumnal burgundy and pale pink pop out against the charcoal backdrop. Comfort and style are without a doubt critical components of modern fashion, and the dancers of the NYCB master them both.
