No trip to Tokyo would be complete without a stop at Daikanyama’s Okura store. This treasure trove of all things indigo offers a glimpse into Japan’s traditional craft and its deep affinity with natural indigo hand dye, batik and block print techniques, and sashiko stitch hand-craft. A trip down the denim-lined stairs into Bombay Bazaar for lunch is almost obligatory, and a visit into the cute toilet filled with birdsong has to be experienced, too!
The mother company (Seilin) owns the Hollywood Ranch Market down the road along with Blue Blue in Nakameguro so, it covers many tastes and markets within denim and offers great insight into the Japanese aesthetic. That’s why we were totally stoked to hear that that the OKURA ONLINE SHOP has just opened!
The website offers international shipping and their original blog, “LIFE IS A JOURNEY”, has also moved to this site. They stock many items from Hollywood Ranch, Okura and Blue Blue from denim garments to trinkets and bandanas. We’re seeing more and more evidence of Japanese brands reaching out to the wider global markets as of late and we’re very excited! Check out their Facebook for the latest updates.
