The Stylesight Graphics team visited the first installment of the U.K.’s most import graduate design exhibitions. New Designers is a key graduate show spilt into two events: Part 1 (29 June – 2 July) exhibits graduate work from courses such as Textiles, Contemporary Applied arts, Ceramics, Jewelry and Metalwork. Part 2 (6-9 July) covers Product Design, Furniture Design, Visual Communications and Spatial Design. These shows are great to see the next wave of inspiring new designers to hit the industry. After all the summer graduate shows the Prints & Graphics team will be working on a Graduate Print & Graphic highlight report, which will go up later this month. In the meantime here is a small roundup of our highlights seen at Part 1.
We loved Rhiannon Williams’ (University of Falmouth) fun crafted patchwork designs, which used a collective mix of animals and cowboys.
Leeds College of Art was one of the key highlights from the show with a strong collection of outstanding print design work. Two graduates that stood out among the high standard of work were Damien Barlow and Lauren Moorhouse.
Damien Barlow’s stark paper-cut patterned work had real visual impact.
Another graduate highlight was Lauren Moorhouse with her beautifully refined large scale floral print work.
Crafted looks were a strong feature from the show and Nicola MacArthur from Heriot-Watt University showed off some outstanding technique. We loved the cross stitch and print combination details in her work.
Look out for our Graduate Print & Graphic report coming out later this month.
