New Denim Design Talent: Rita Canto

The Stylesight denim team is always on the lookout for new and emerging design talent so we were happy to discover Middlesex graduate, Rita Canto this summer.

Denim has been the go-to surface for a lot of London graduates over the past few seasons, with young designers looking to the rugged fabric to experiment their budding designs. So far we’ve highlighted Sasu KauppiFaustine Steinmetz and Tamina Navaei as well as the ISKO x London College of Fashion competition earlier this summer.

As the dust settles over the 2013 graduate collections we look to the latest design talent, Rita Canto graduate of Middlesex University. Working towards the contemporary womenswear market, Canto combines clean silhouettes with an urban aesthetic that results in designs that are simple in shape but intricate in details and fabrics. A palette of dusky blue denims is infused with sheer holographic organza that lends an ethereal touch. The collection is full of ’90s inspired silhouettes like oversized jackets, crop tops, high waisted jeans and skirts, all filled with fun textures like fur and mesh to create a contemporary urban aesthetic. The socks, sandals and scrunchie styling nods to the `90s influence heavily at work here.
