The WGSN denim team was pretty excited this week to see young design talent, Xiao Li’s first capsule collection hit the press, in collaboration with Diesel and 10 Corso Como.
After winning Diesel’s 2013 International Talent Support competition this Chinese-born designer is fresh out of her 6 month internship at the Italian denim brand, where she worked with the design team, under by artistic direction of Nicola Formachetti.
Li’s aesthetic is very recognisable; taking everyday and oversized fashion items and coating them in candy-colored silicone, she instantly caught the attention of the world’s fashion press whilst still at the Royal Collage of Art in London. She inspired materials specialists around the globe as well as our WGSN in-house trends team with this unique look. What’s exciting about her newest release is she has applied the process to classic denim pieces and details, creating an amazing modernised denim aesthetic.
The capsule collection consists of 7 pieces: a vest, a skirt, a dress, two necklaces and a shopping bag.
“The concept was to bring denim to a new and innovative level,” Li says. “Mixing traditional denim fabrics and knits with molded silicon creates an unexpected look that is between real and surreal.”
Diesel and 10 Corso Como will celebrate the collection’s launch with a cocktail event on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm at 10 Corso Como, Milan. After Milan, the capsule collection will be presented in all the 10 Corso Como flagship stores in Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing.
