A current exhibition that grabbed the graphics team’s eye recently was ‘Never Judge…?’. In this inspiring art show, 100 artists were given free range to design their reinterpretation of a collection of classic book titles.
Think of the classic covers that grace the jackets of thousands of books and the names of the truly great artists that have put their artwork to novels, creating iconic covers for these classic books.
The broad and varied spectrum of artists was invited to paint, print, etch, sculpt, photograph – whatever their medium, whatever their style… to create a book cover for a novel of their choice, a book that inspires them, a book that has had a profound impact on them or a book that they remember fondly as a child. All that we asked was that they create their original artwork to the traditional format and size of a Penguin book: 198mm (h) x 129mm (w).
Artists included: Alex Fakso, Alex Trochut, Andrew Council, Buff Monster, C215, Chris Stain, D*FACE, Evan Hecox, Jon Burgerman, Kid Acne, Mr Jago, Pete Fowler, ROA, Ronzo, Shepard Fairey,Sickboy, Tom J Newell, Toshikazu Nozaka and WK Interact to name a few. Art inspired reinterpretations of film posters and classic book covers are becoming a recurring subject for many artists and graphic designers. This emerging trend is sure to influence upcoming graphic tee collections for next season.
