CALL IN THE REINFORCEMENTS
Milan: Neil Barrett is known for his graphic approach — usually showing lots of black and white, as well as making use of color blocking and strong shapes. For a S/S 11 collection called “Graphic Creased”, the designer was drawn to heavily-wrinkled fabrics, successfully fusing Mod and Punk with reinforced moto pants, laundered nappa leather vests, cargo pockets on everything, and graphic leather bands trimming woven shirts. A subtle active spin came through with jersey pants and sleeveless silhouettes, and ultra-slim suits in wrinkled viscose cotton looked anything but businesslike. The transparent effect of Barrett’s summertime layering was especially powerful, as were experiments in proportions like elongated woven shirts worn under cropped jackets.
