Womenswear brand Needle & Thread has scored a major coup by landing former Saks president Marigay McKee as an investor and board member, WGSN reports
It’s an exciting time for British contemporary womenswear brand Needle & Thread.
The brand, which makes chic occasionwear and affordable luxury pieces, has scored a major coup by landing former Saks president Marigay McKee as an investor and board member.
McKee, who prior to Saks was chief merchant at Harrods, has been dubbed the “Fairy Godmother of Fashion” by Needle & Thread founder Hannah Coffin. One of the most powerful global fashion directors, McKee left Saks in 2014 and went on to establish her own consultancy MM Luxe Consulting.
The stake in Needle & Thread is McKee’s first fashion investment and is testament to the success of the brand, which was established in 2013, and its positioning in the fast growing “affordable luxury” space.
It offers high end design and construction for accessible prices; embellished full-length dresses, for instance, retail from around £185 to £550 and it recently launched an affordable bridalwear line (which is proving to be another fast expanding space) which is sold on its own website and at NET-A-PORTER.COM.
As well as NET-A-PORTER.COM, Needle & Thread already boasts an impressive line-up of wholesale stockists that includes Liberty, Harrods, Lane Crawford and Neiman Marcus and with McKee’s backing and global reputation, one would only expect to see that list expand further.
The product line-up at Needle & Thread too has been expanding and the brand has been carefully adding separates that still retain the brand’s signature handwriting, such as sunray pleated skirts, and on-trend embellished silk bombers. Coffin has a great eye for design, detail and styling (prior to starting the brand she was womenswear design director at All Saints) and paired with McKee’s impeccable commercial and creative credentials, this is definitely a pairing to watch.
Needle & Thread has been nominated in the best start-up category for the WGSN Futures Awards, which take place in London on 26 May. For more information visit: www.wgsnfuturesawards.com
