The collection was beautiful, subtle and sexy from the first look until the last. WGSN Catwalks Director Lizzy Bowring on her latest pick from New York Fashion Week
New York: “I wanted to see things more relaxed, much more undone and easier,” said Narciso Rodriguez when explaining the thought process behind his Spring/Summer 2016 collection. He also mentioned his starting point was photographs of the ocean floor. You can see why. Clothes were sensual and ebbed and flowed throughout the lineup.
From the opening outfit of a black sateen top was intricately engineered with infinite precision and worn over a pair of white fluid trousers, (the visual impact was breathtaking) to the silk tees draped nonchalantly, exposing bare shoulders and serenely appealing to the senses.
Dresses in fluid silks ebbed around the body, helped by the sculptural mastery of asymmetrical lines that curved in defining lines assisted of course, by the choice of fabrics which were textural – leather, nubby linens, silk crepes and chiffons. Print was as clean and fluid as the garments, placed in a sweeping hoop of amber, red and gold that traversed and encircled silhouettes. Elegant, subtle and overtly sexy.
