Narciso Rodriguez

GRAPHIC MINIMALISM
New York: Inspired for C/R 12 by the vibrant, recently discovered work of 96-year-old Cuban-born artist Carmen Herrera (she sold her first painting in 2004), Narciso Rodriguez energized his trademark elegant-modern silhouettes with boldly-colored graphic motifs and artful color-blocking. Construction and textile were focal points of each garment; large-scale linear patterns and piecing called attention to architectural shapes, and smooth, laminated fabrics contrasted raw linens and cotton canvases. Simple black and white strappy sandals and vivid lips completed each ensemble. –Whitney Kessler
