SHADOWS + FIRE
New York: Consummate minimalist Narciso Rodriguez kept to his signature aesthetic for his F/W 10 collection. The clean lines and simple shapes that his followers have come to expect were all there, but this season Rodriguez called out curvilinear forms and shadows as his inspirations. Asymmetrically pieced blouses and curving seams on dresses and coats created the undulating shapes the designer had in mind. Ombré patterns and shades of grey represented the shadows, but an element of fire emerged with shimmering orange and red appearing for some of the ombré looks, and swaths of red on the pieced tops. Harder edged details like heavy silver zippers and nail-head embellishments gave the garments a tougher feeling, but the overall mood was pure Narciso – minimal at the core with shapes that flatter a woman’s frame.
