BEST OF THE BASICS
New York: Following his masterful S/S 13 collection, Narciso Rodriguez went back to basics for Pre-Fall. At first glance, the offering may have seemed like a bit of a let down after such a spectacular Spring show, but closer inspection revealed subtle details that made these basics some of the most covetable around. Rodriguez used diagonal panels of leather to create an A-line skirt, and leather waistbands elevated a minimalist coatdress. The soft skins were also used for boxy tees, perfect shift dresses, and shells. On the opposite end of the texture spectrum were the fine-gauge knits, which featured color blocking that set them apart from the average sweater. The cranberry and creamsicle tones of Spring deepened into cinnamon, rust, and burgundy for Pre-Fall, adding richness and warmth to this desirable collection.–Joanna Manganaro
