Available from mid December the collection of two styles in 3 colors are inspired by the 1954 Italian expedition to the second highest mountain in the world, the K2. This homage to the mountaineers and the expedition has resulted in two models, based on the requirements that 21st Century sports goggles must be lightweight, durable and adjustable.
The frame shapes are influenced by 1950s Alpine goggles, and update them in-line with current face frame trends, including straight brow bars and broad frames. The use of new MKITA MYLON material is also a critical part of the design. This is the first time that the new MYKITA patented polyamide-based material has been used for in the production of eyewear; exploring its light, extremely durable and individually adjustable properties.
The frames are fitted with mineral glass lenses from traditional Italian manufacturer Barberini, which also reveal the MYKITA & Moncler logo when breathed on.
Using bright red and blue tones that Moncler down coats were originally sold in in the early 1960s, and packaged in a padded sleeping bag style carry pouch adds to the collaborative spirit and authenticity of this collection.
To celebrate the launch of the project MYKITA and Moncler also created a graphic, cinematic film, in striking greyscale.
