Online retail giant Amazon is making its foray into the world of art commerce, launching a new service that enables users to browse and purchase works from over 4,500 high-profile and lesser-known artists.
The venture sees Amazon partnering with over 150 galleries and dealers based in the US (including online art community Paddle 8) to provide a range of artworks in mediums that span photography, painting, drawing and mixed media. Artworks for sale are priced at a modest $99 and under through to $10,000 and above. In addition, Amazon has listed artwork and artist information below each piece of work, making the site experience somewhat reminiscent of a visit to an art gallery.
With an easy to navigate site, where users will be able to search artworks by subject, style, price, color and gallery, Amazon Art is likely to appeal to a broad spectrum of consumer types.
