Last month saw the launch of Marriott International’s latest Moxy location – an experiential hotel brand aimed at the next generation of travellers – in Germany’s creative capital Berlin. The third hotel to open in the country, following locations in Frankfurt and Munich, the Moxy Berlin is centrally situated in Ostbahnhof, housing 210 rooms, and great communal spaces like a living room and games room.
WGSN City by City Travel editors were among the lucky few who got to preview the hotel last month at its launch party, so here’s our three reasons you should consider the Moxy if travelling to Berlin.

The Moxy finds itself just minutes from one of Berlin’s most important historical sites, and arguably best sources of inspiration for colour, print and graphics – the East Side Gallery. This section of the Berlin wall is a memorial for freedom, measuring 1316 metres long and consisting of 105 paintings by artists from all over the world – a must-visit if in the city.
In addition to this, the hotel is within walking distance to Alexanderplatz where you can find some great mid-market, chain stores and designer labels, as well as popular restaurants. If it’s Berlin’s famous nightlife scene you’re keen to experience however, the hotel is also a stone’s throw from the infamous weekend-long nightclub Berghain.
Ostbahnhof is the hotel’s nearest train station and metro, just a two minute walk away, which takes you pretty much anywhere in the city.
In the communal areas like the lobby, living room and games room, visitors will find artful graffiti and mural-covered walls, and as part of the launch, emerging artists from around the world were invited to submit works including installations and performance art as part of the hotel’s #blankcanvas initiative to bring the space to life. Some have the chance to be featured permanently in among the hotel’s art works. The look and feel of the hotel is bold, youthful, and fun, appealing to the Millennial generation tired of generic chains. The lobby features a ‘Moxy Library’, a vintage record player, and a games area, while the lifts are photo-booth inspired, encouraging guests to take a selfie – a clever way of connecting itself to the generation’s social media savvy travellers.
The overall concept at The Moxy is all about experience, and connecting young travellers in ways that fulfill them. There’s space to work, and plenty of space to play, with the hotel aiming to becoming a central hub or hang out for locals and travellers alike. The living room makes this a real possibility, featuring ultra-fast wifi, cool meeting spaces, and comfy seating, based around a central island which is a combined check-in and bar area, making it the perfect space for events or gatherings, whether with colleagues or friends.

Certainly, in the competitive accommodation market, with Air-Bnb being a huge way that millenials travel today, and the desire for experiential travel becoming a huge trend, Moxy Berlin seems perfectly positioned to take a slice of the market. The fact it’s affordable to most with prices starting at just €69 a night only adds to its appeal.
All in all, the Moxy Berlin is a true WGSN favourite for its affordability, design credentials, concept, and location.
