Moschino Cheap and Chic

SERIOUSLY SURREAL
London: Upon first glance, the most striking aspect of the Fall Moschino Cheap and Chic collection are the interesting and off-beat color combinations. Pastels meeting up with chartreuse and neon yellow, avocado and olive sitting with mustard and bubblegum pink. But an unusual palette was just one technique to further creative director Rossella Jardini’s surrealist 50s theme. Styled with beehive hairdos, headbands and pointy kitten heels, the models were prim but kooky in patchwork lace, crafty crochet embellished knits, eyeball print dresses and tie-dyed furs. At every turn, Jardini cemented her message of feminine fun with iridescent pailettes and pom-pom trim as well as more literal slogan t-shirts. Though reliably pretty and wearable, the collection truly pushed the envelope with subversive art references and witty vintage updates.—Nina Stotler
