We’ve been pretty impressed with Michael Kampe’s work since we first saw his Diesel competition images in the summer of last year. But during a recent trip to Hyeres Festival in the south of France the Stylesight team met the young denim master and caught a glimpse of his exceptional new work:
Michael studied at Antwerp’s Royal Academy- the same fashion school as other famed designers such as Raf Simons, Martin Margiela and Bernhard Willhelm. He looked at exploded view diagrams and blueprints as his initial research for his final collection and his faceted, pieced and 3D laundries are attention grabbing and inspirational.
He won an internship at Diesel last summer and is about to work for them as a fully fledged designer this month, as well as continuing his own range, Kampe, and launching a casual denim and womenswear range, so he’s going to be a busy guy! Everyone’s talking about him being the new denim design talent right now, including Dazed Digital and Vice Style and we couldn’t agree more.
