An illustrator that caught our eye recently was Johanna Basford, a creative textile designer who has been creating some intricate pen and ink visuals.
Basford’s unique monochrome illustrations of flora and fauna have dramatic visual impact. Much of her work draws inspiration from her childhood days on her parents’ fish farm in rural Aberdeenshire.
She explains, “Every piece I create starts life as a simple pencil sketch, evolving into a rambling pen and ink drawing (usually over several sheets of paper). I love the tactile nature of the materials I use and the joy of smudgy fingerprints.”
Clients collaborations have already included: The Crafts Council at the Victoria and Albert Museum, DKNY, Channel 4, H&M, and many others.
